WHITING, Ind. – Vanessa Owusu and Brooke Lee posted mirroring 16-kill days, and the Roosevelt volleyball team swept its way to a pair of victories to conclude the 2014 Crimson Wave Invitational hosted by Calumet College of St. Joseph at the Rittenmeyer Athletic Center on Saturday.
The Lakers defeated Indiana Northwest by a final of 25-17, 25-10, 25-17 in the morning's lid-lifter before handing the same swept-up fate to Tennessee Wesleyan, 25-18, 25-17, 25-22, in the afternoon finale.
Roosevelt improved to 19-12 thanks to the two sweeps. The Lakers are one victory away from a third consecutive 20-win campaign.
Lee was named to the 2014 Crimson Wave All-Invitational Team after averaging a team-leading 2.92 kills per set and accumulating a total of 38 kills. The freshman also turned in 30 digs and seven blocks during the four-match event.
Owusu and Lee had seven kills apiece in the opener before tallying nine kills each in the TWU match.
Abby Petroelje had nine kills against Indiana Northwest, while Marissa Minturn had a 50-assist showing in her six sets of setting.
Roosevelt was efficient throughout, with a set of nearly 50 percent hitting in each match and finishing the bout against the RedHawks with a team attack percentage of .342 after committing just eight errors while slamming down 34 kills.
The Lakers had 29 kills to just 10 miscues for a .209 clip in the afternoon contest versus the Lady Bulldogs.
Roosevelt will face Judson in Elgin this Tuesday night before hosting the CCAC Crossover at the Goodman Center on Oct. 24 and Oct. 25.
