CHICAGO – Roosevelt University senior middle blocker Vanessa Owusu (Bolingbrook, Ill./Joliet Catholic) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 12, the conference announced on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
Owusu had another splendid week in leading the Lakers to three victories. She totaled 62 kills in five matches, averaging 3.4 kills per set in 18 frames while stonewalling 21 attacks via the block.
The two-time All-CCAC selection started the week with 13 kills in a three-set sweep of rival Robert Morris on Oct. 7.
Owusu then earned all-tournament team honors at the Big Guns Classic hosted by St. Francis (Ill.) on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 10 and 11. She garnered the post-event recognition by accumulating 49 kills in four contests, averaging 3.27 kps.
She had a week-best 16 kills in a four-set win over Missouri Valley on Oct. 11. Owusu then followed that up with 13 against Marian (Ind.) in the finale.
For the season Owusu has a team-best 259 kills for an average of 2.8 per set while hitting at a clip of .297, a mark that ranks in the top 50 nationally. She also has 80 blocks for the Laker lead.
Owusu, now a two-time CCAC Player of the Week in 2014 after winning the award on Sept. 9, ranks fourth in the CCAC in both kills per set and hitting percentage.
Roosevelt hosts Saint Xavier in a CCAC clash tonight (Tuesday, Oct. 14) at 7 p.m. inside the Goodman Center.
