Volleyball Overmatches Indiana Northwest

CHICAGO - The Roosevelt volleyball team stepped out of conference play for a home contest against Indiana Northwest on Saturday, and the Lakers proved to be too much for the visiting RedHawks in a three-set sweep, 25-21, 25-10, 25-8, at the Goodman Center.

Vanessa Owusu had 13 kills and four blocks for the Lakers, who improved to 17-7. Valerie Cutrone added 11 kills, Tori Schrementi had seven kills and Arielle Nausieda contributed 12 digs in the sweep of the RedHawks (2-28).

Roosevelt hit at a clip of .289 and held Indiana Northwest to a -.113 attack percentage, allowing just nine kills in 62 attempts by the visitors.

The first set was the closest, as Indiana Northwest closed a 21-14 gap to get to 23-20 at one point. But the Lakers held off the guests thanks to closing kills from Maggie Dobek and Schrementi.

The next two sets were no-doubters from the start, as Roosevelt built big leads and never looked back en route to the three-set decision.

The Lakers close out a three-match homestand against Loop neighbor and CCAC rival Robert Morris this Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. The match features Dig Pink activities to raise awareness of breast cancer.
