Volleyball Pulls Out Five-Set Victory At IIT

Chicago, Ill. – The Roosevelt volleyball team survived a second straight five-set marathon as the Lakers ventured into the Keating Sports Center and outlasted host IIT, 25-22, 22-25, 25-19, 26-28, 15-10 on Tuesday night.

Roosevelt moved to 10-7 overall on the year and leveled its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference record at 3-3 with the victory. The Scarlet Hawks fell to 7-12, 1-4 in league contests.

Freshman Tori Schrementi backed up the career-high 20 kills she notched in Saturday's win over Judson with a team-high 17 kills in the match. Sophomore Vanessa Owusu just missed the first triple-double in Roosevelt history, finishing with 15 kills, 12 digs and seven blocks. Sophomore Valerie Cutrone tabbed her second straight double-double with 15 kills and 15 digs, while adding three service aces and three blocks.

Freshmen Arielle Nausieda and Talia Kaczmarek aided the Lakers' defensive efforts with 18 and 11 digs, respectively. Rookie Aleesha Cleaver led Roosevelt with 29 assists.

Kate Kendall paced IIT with 13 kills and 14 digs.

The two teams traded wins through the first four sets with the Scarlet Hawks forcing a deciding fifth set after pulling out a 28-26 triumph in the fourth set. The fifth set was deadlocked at 6-6 when a 5-0 run by the Lakers, behind Owusu's serve, gave Roosevelt the breathing room it needed to pull out a 15-10 victory to close out the match.

Roosevelt will look for its third straight win on Wednesday when it travels across town to take on Moody Bible at 7:00 p.m.
