Chicago, Ill. - The Roosevelt volleyball team opened its day-night doubleheader on Saturday with a 25-22, 25-20, 25-9 loss to visiting Indiana University South Bend at the Flames Athletic Center. The Lakers will return to the court at 7:30 p.m. for a non-conference match with Mount Mercy.
Versus the Titans, freshman
Vanessa Owusu led Roosevelt (3-18) with a team-high 10 kills. Freshman
Nicole Winter added six kills and a team-best nine digs.
Krystle Troyer paced the Titans (9-4) with a double-double performance of 10 kills and 10 digs. Patrice McBee posted a match-high 11 kills for IUSB.
Roosevelt owned a 17-12 lead in the opening set, but watched as the Titans tallied eight of the next nine points to take a 20-18 advantage. The Lakers would get no closer than two points the rest of the way, eventually dropping the opening frame, 25-22.
Set two was also closely contest with the score knotted at 16-16, before an IUSB surge led to a 25-20 triumph. The final set was all Titans as IUSB jumped out to a 15-5 lead and never looked back.
