BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Roosevelt opened its 2026-27 season with a strong second-place finish at the Bulldog Classic hosted by Ferris State on Monday and Tuesday.

The Lakers were near the top of the team leaderboard for most of the morning round Monday, but solidified their spot in the afternoon round. Roosevelt tied for the best score of the second round with a team total of 5-over to separate itself from the rest of the contenders. It entered Tuesday's final round just five shots back of the hosts in the lead, but the weather stymied the Lakers' comeback attempt.

For the first half of Roosevelt's last round, it closed the deficit against Ferris State and kept the Bulldogs on their toes. However, a 90-minute weather delay in the early afternoon halted that momentum and the Lakers had to settle for second place in the season's first event.

Lucas Faubert was the most impacted by the weather as his 2-under round was paused right after a stretch of three birdies in five holes, and he finished with a 1-over 72. The sophomore was the Lakers' best individual after finishing in seventh place at 4-over for the 54 holes. He had to settle for a 2-over 73 in his first round Monday but shot back-to-back 72s in the final two rounds and finished with 10 total birdies.

Marc Waller carded five birdies, including one on his final hole of Monday morning to shoot 1-under 70 in the opening round. The senior was mostly clean in the afternoon with seven straight pars before a birdie, and was 1-under through 13 holes. However, one poor hole knocked him back into the black and he finished the tournament in eighth place at 6-over.

Pierre Heylen and Ben Jones both placed in a tie for 12^th at 7-over par with similar trajectories. Both golfers shot 75 to open the tournament before Jones shot even par in the afternoon and Heylen was just a shot back with a 72. Matthew Webb rounded out the Roosevelt lineup for the event and shot 23-over to finish in 45^th place.
