Heylen Leads Lakers To 2nd Place Finish

DETROIT, Mich. – Roosevelt finished second in a four-team field at the Motor City Shakedown hosted by Wayne State at West Shore Golf & Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.

The Lakers faced three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes in their final tournament of the fall. Pierre Heylen led the team with a fourth-place finish, moving up two spots on the final day to finish at 7-over for the three-round event. Lucas Faubert finished in a tie for 11th at 13-over with Marc Waller and Matthew Webb one shot back in 13th position.

Webb had the best opening round of the Lakers with four birdies to shoot a 1-over 72 on Monday morning. Heylen was two shots back after the first 18 holes while Waller was the worst Roosevelt player in the morning.

However, the Spainard was the best Lakers player in the afternoon flipping his 10-over from the first round into an even par 71 in the second. He made five birdies across his round to lead the pack with Heylen again two shots behind.

Heylen was Roosevelt's best player in Tuesday's final round with a 73 and managed to card the second-fewest double bogeys or worse over the 54 holes. On the flip side, Jamie Garnett was one of two players in the event to make multiple eagles, holing out for 2 on the par-4 15th in the first round then scoring a 3 on the par-5 16th in the third round.
