LEXINGTON, Ky. – Lucas Faubert finished in sixth place to lead Roosevelt to a 10th-place finish at the SVSU Spring Intercollegiate Invitational hosted by Saginaw Valley State in Lexington, Kentucky over the weekend.
Faubert started off the weekend with consecutive bogeys in the first round Saturday, but quickly responded once he stood on the tee at No. 1. The freshman shot a 2-under 34 on the traditional front nine then added two more birdies on 10 and 11 to get to 2-under for the tournament. He finished the first round at even par, but carried that momentum into the second round of the day.
He began the afternoon round with a birdie and finished with three birdies on his card for a tidy 71, once again shooting 2-under on holes 1-9. Faubert was not immune from the conditions on Sunday as the entire field battled the weather, but the freshman did manage a birdie to shoot 5-over and finish the event at 4-over.
Jamie Garnett started the event with a birdie on his first hole and managed his way around the course well Saturday morning. He finished the morning two shots behind Faubert before falling back in the afternoon with a 5-over. The freshman did string together two birdies on Sunday, but finished in 42nd place.
Right behind Garnett was Ben Jones, who overcame a 10-over first round to shoot 18-over for the tournament and finish 45th. He shot just 2-over Saturday afternoon after struggling in the morning then bounced back from a rough start Sunday to steady the ship for a 78.
Marc Waller also managed to shoot a 6-over in Sunday's final round to finish in 58th place while Justin Rodriguez used a 1-over 73 Saturday afternoon to finish in 72nd position. After recording only four pars Saturday morning, Rodriguez made three birdies and just three bogeys in the afternoon for his career-best 73.
Easton Holman participated as an individual for the Lakers and finished 65th but scored a birdie in all three rounds.
