DEKALB, Ill. – Lluc Mascaro Sierra earned a dominant straight-sets win to secure a point for Roosevelt in its first dual of the spring against Northern Illinois.
Sierra earned an early break in the first set and pushed his advantage with aggressive tennis that kept the Huskies on their heels. After taking the first set 6-3, the freshman won the first three games of the second set to take control. The second set remained on serve the rest of the way as Sierra served out the match for a 6-3, 6-3 win.
The Lakers dropped the doubles point despite a highly competitive match at No. 3 doubles going unfinished. Northern Illinois easily took the first four singles points before finding itself in a fight at No. 5 and No. 6. Justus Peters rallied from 5-1 down in the second set to 5-4, draining the confidence from his opponent. The Huskies were able to hold serve for a win to go up 6-0 in the dual.
