Jonathan Stovring Named GLVC Defensive Player Of Week

INDIANAPOLIS – Jonathan Stovring's dominance at the net earned him Great Lakes Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

The junior from Denmark helped steer Roosevelt to a split last week with nine blocks between the two matches. He had five stuffs against No. 2 Saint Xavier on Tuesday in a four-set loss before registering four blocks Saturday in a five-set win over Concordia Chicago. Stovring had a tremendous performance against the Cougars, sparking the Lakers in key moments throughout the match.

It began in the second set when Stovring began with a kill then delivered both of his aces to power Roosevelt to an early 6-0 advantage. The junior tied his career high with 13 kills and hit .706 against the Cougars with three of his kills coming in the fifth set to seal the victory. He also added two blocks in that fifth set to secure the win.

"We are happy and excited for Jon and this week's accomplishments," Roosevelt head coach Kelly Magliano said. "Jon is a big part of our defense and we're thrilled the conference recognized his contributions this week."

Stovring becomes the first Roosevelt player to earn a GLVC weekly honor as the Lakers are in their first season as affiliate members. Roosevelt last had a player of the week in March 2024 when Michele Bascape was named the CCAC Setter of the Week.

Roosevelt is at home on Friday at 6 p.m. against Wisconsin Stevens Point before heading on the road Saturday to face Trinity Christian in the final meeting between the Lakers and Trolls.
