BAY CITY, Mich. – Roosevelt senior defender Mackenzie Alvarez was named an honorable mention selection to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference all-conference women's soccer teams, the league announced Thursday.
The Poplar Grove, Ill. native played every minute of the season for the Lakers at center back, leading that group with her speed and tenacity. Alvarez picked up her first career assist in the season opener at Upper Iowa to help Roosevelt earn a 2-2 draw.
In her four years with the Lakers, Alvarez started 67 out of a possible 68 matches and missed just 157 total minutes. She was twice named an all-conference performer in the CCAC and closes her storied career with two goals and one assists from the back line.
"Kenzie has been a key component on our backline during her entire collegiate career, and she helped our program tremendously in the transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division II," Roosevelt head coach Tom Czop said. "Her outstanding defensive play and effort kept us in many games this past season in an always tough GLIAC, and she is truly deserving of this honor. I am happy to see her senior year culminate with this recognition and the impact she has made on our program is immeasurable."
