ARLINGTON HEIGHTS – Roosevelt's valiant effort came up one goal short in a 1-0 loss to Parkside on Thursday in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Morris Field.
Although the Lakers were outshot 26-4 overall, it never felt like the match was truly one-sided. Roosevelt (1-12-4, 1-10-2 GLIAC) held a fair amount of possession in attacking areas, but didn't always succeed on that final pass for a shot attempt. But when those passes did connect, the Lakers looked threatening.
The Lakers had two breakaway chances that were denied, one by a late defender sprinting back and the other by the right post. Roosevelt then played the final four minutes with a man advantage after a Parkside red card, but could not find the game-tying goal.
Parkside put 12 attempts on target, but it took a special shot to beat freshman Kaylee Sarnicola. The Michigan native made 11 saves, including a pair on breakaways, a diving stop in the second half and a one-handed push over the top of the goal on a high-rising attempt. Sarnicola now has 148 saves on the season, putting her in second place on the single-season saves list, and improved her save percentage to .787.
