HAMMOND, Ind. – Dayami Arias' first-half goal helped Roosevelt earn a 1-1 draw with Purdue Northwest on Friday in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
The Lakers (1-9-4, 1-7-2 GLIAC) came out of the gates ready to play and caught the Lions on their back foot early on. Bella Perry had an early shot parried away by the Purdue Northwest goalkeeper, but Arias was in perfect position to score the opening goal off the rebound just 3:16 into the match. It was the freshman's second goal of the season and Perry's assist gave her a career-best seven point this year as a junior.
Roosevelt outshot the Lions 7-6 in the opening 45 minutes and threatened to score again while forcing five saves from the Purdue Northwest goalkeeper. Kaylee Sarnicola made three stops herself to keep the Lakers in the lead at halftime, but the Lions scored the equalizer in the 61st minute as they outshot the Lakers 7-0 in the second half. Sarnicola finished with seven saves overall in the match.
UP NEXT: Roosevelt returns home Sunday to face Wayne State, a GLIAC newcomer in that the longtime conference member is in the women's soccer program's first year. Kickoff is slated for noon between the Lakers and Warriors.
