DEARBORN, Mich. – A pair of top-10 finishes propelled Roosevelt to a third-place finish at the Motor City Shakedown on Monday and Tuesday hosted by Wayne State at TPC Michigan in Dearborn, Mich.
Pierre Heylen finished in fifth place with a total score of 8-over, edging out
Jamie Garnett's 7
th-place finish at 10-over. Heylen was in contention atop the leaderboard after shooting a 1-over 73 in the opening round then finished Monday with a poised 74 with six total birdies between the two rounds. The sophomore from France carded two more birdies in Tuesday's final round in tough conditions.
Garnett also shot a 74 in Monday's second round with one bad hole keeping him from finishing in the red. In the morning round, the freshman had some struggles on the back nine to finish +4 for the round. However, the fireworks were out in force for Garnett at the end of the third round thanks to back-to-back eagles on his 15
th and 16
th holes of the day. The freshman scored a 2 on the par-4 6
th then added a 3 on the par-5 7
th.
Ben Jones had an eagle of his own in Monday's first round en route to a 76 then added a 74 in the afternoon to finish the day at 6-over. Jones finished 12
th after shooting a 77 on Tuesday while
Lucas Faubert shook off two poor rounds Monday to shoot a 75 on Tuesday to finish 26
th.
The highlight of the tournament, however, came from
Marc Waller, who recorded the third ace in program history during Monday's morning round. The Spaniard came to the tee at the par-3 15
th hole already 12-over for the day, but he was perfect on the 192-yard hole and turned around his round.
