5 Numbers That Definied 2025 For Roosevelt Athletics

As we head into the final week of 2025, it is time to reflect on the incredible year in Roosevelt Athletics.

Today we begin with the five numbers that came to define the 2025 year for the Lakers on the field. On Friday, we will look at some of the best moments from the past calendar year then Monday we will highlight the student-athletes who excelled in 2025 on and off the court/field/track.

17 All-Conference Honorees

Starting with the conclusion of the winter season in March through the fall, there were 17 Lakers who earned All-GLIAC First or Second Team honors. The list includes four first-team honorees – senior baseball outfielder James Berry, graduate student men's soccer midfielder Caco Fernandez, men's soccer Offensive Player of the Year Fynn Mewes and women's soccer sophomore forward Carisma Rosales.

These student-athletes are examples of the overall success Roosevelt had in competition this season with six teams qualifying for the conference tournament in 2025. Both basketball teams, the baseball program, softball and both soccer squads played in the postseason this year while the golf team finished fifth in the conference tournament, led by Pierre Heylen's third-place finish as an individual.

Roosevelt Women's Soccer vs. Lewis
25 Goals for Women's Soccer

The maturation of the women's soccer program in their second year of GLIAC play is a perfect example of the overall growth for the Roosevelt athletics department. The Lakers scored just eight goals in their first season against Division II competition, and they more than tripled their total this year as they won three conference games and five matches overall. Last season, Roosevelt was shut out 10 times in 17 matches, and this year, the Lakers failed to score just six times in 18 games.

Daisy Garcia and Carisma Rosales played a major role in the offensive resurgence for the Lakers, and both arrived at Roosevelt via the transfer portal. However, the youth movement within the roster also made dramatic improvements with sophomore Bella Perry taking on a larger role on both ends of the field and freshman Olivia Lange earning starts in all 18 games on defense.

Berry Streak 122425
32-Game Hitting Streak

James Berry had a remarkable season at the plate for the Roosevelt baseball team, and it showed with first-team all-conference and first-team all-region honors. The highlight of the season, though, was a program-record 32-game hitting streak that lasted from March through most of April. During that stretch, the Southfield, Mich. native batted .422 with 25 RBI and 24 runs scored at the top of the Roosevelt lineup.

Overall, Berry batted .408 while starting all 51 games for Roosevelt with a school-record 80 hits. He led the team with 22 extra-base hits, including seven triples, and also drove in 33 runs. In the conference tournament, Berry went 5 for 8 with two runs scored, including a 4 for 5 outing against No. 15 Davenport, and earned all-tournament honors.

Outlay D 122425
106 Steals

Marie Outlay has rewritten the record books in her first two seasons, and 2025 was the year it all turned around for the junior. In this calendar year, the Sun Prairie, Wis. native had 106 steals across 28 contests, an average of 3.8 steals per game. She averaged 3.9 thefts per game in the final 19 games of the 2024-25 season and has started this season averaging 3.6 steals per contest.

Outlay is now just 39 steals away from tying the program record for career steals and 52 away from setting the single-season record for a third straight year. A two-time all-defensive team honoree, Outlay has continued her dominance on that end of the floor with seven blocks this season, including a career-best four in the Lakers' final game of 2025 last Saturday against Lewis.

366 Passing Yards

After Tony Chahino took over the Roosevelt offense midway through the season, the freshman orchestrated a sensational debut through the air. He threw for 300 yards three times in his five starts, including his record-break start on Nov. 1 at Michigan Tech. Chahino set the program record by throwing for 366 yards on 27 of 46 passing against the Huskies to help lead the Lakers to 31 points.

Chahino was effective at attacking down the field against the Huskies with a 30-yard connection to Norion Espadron on Roosevelt's second drive for a touchdown. He added a 53-yard touchdown pass to Norbert Espadron in the second quarter then a 45-yard pass to Norion that set up a Cam Davis rushing touchdown.
