CHICAGO – Here's a look at the rest of the year in Roosevelt athletics:
Women's Basketball
After taking on two GLIAC opponents last week, the Roosevelt women's basketball team will take on two GLVC opponents this week. On Sunday, the Lakers lost to Illinois-Springfield in Springfield, Illinois. Tuesday, the Lakers will take on the Upper Iowa Peacocks in Fayette, Iowa, at 5:30 p.m. The Peacocks are sitting at 6-3 on the season, having rattled off five wins in a row after a 1-3 start to the season. Upper Iowa lost against Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech to open its season -- two teams that Roosevelt faced just last week. The Lakers will then return home to wrap up the 2025 portion of their season with a game against Lewis on Dec. 20th at 1:00 p,m. The Flyers are currently 2-6 on the season, with four different players averaging more than 9.8 points per game.
Men's Basketball
Off the back of a GLIAC doubleheader, the Roosevelt men's basketball team will hit the road to play three GLVC foes in four days. On Tuesday, the Lakers will be in Quincy, Illinois, to take on McKendree at 3:00 p.m. in a neutral site contest. The Bearcats currently sit at 5-2, coming off a five-point loss at the University of Illinois Springfield. They are led by senior guard Cha'Vez Woods, who is averaging 17.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2 assists per game, while three other Bearcats average more than 10.9 points a contest. Roosevelt will then take on Quincy University the next day at 1:00 p.m. Quincy has compiled a record of 4-4 to begin the season, with their four losses coming by an average of just 4.25 points. The Hawks are averaging 80.3 points per game, with four players scoring better than 13.8 points per contest. The Lakers will then wrap up the 2025 calendar with a rematch against Upper Iowa in Fayette, Iowa, on Friday at 3:00 p.m. The Peacocks beat Roosevelt 88-76 earlier in the season and hold a record of 7-1 after beating No. 5 Missouri S&T 87-80 earlier this month. Upper Iowa is averaging 86.5 points per game, good for 41st in the country, and is led by Kyle Hrncir, who averages 20.5 points, 9.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.9 steals per game.
