Eric Carvajal Earns Second GLIAC Weekly Award

BAY CITY, Mich. – For the second time this season, Roosevelt senior Eric Carvajal was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

The Arlington Heights native was this season's first GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week, and was arguably even better this past weekend. Carvajal stopped 16 shots in two matches last weekend to help the Lakers stay atop the conference standings entering the final week of the regular season.

He made six saves in a critical 1-1 draw with second-place Saginaw Valley State, including a game-saving stop in the goal area in the final 10 minutes. Carvajal followed Sunday with a 10-save shutout to set the Roosevelt school record for career shutouts.

"Eric came up huge for us in both games this weekend," Roosevelt head coach Paddy Hoepp said. "He made big saves in big moments when we needed him most. Eric's development, not only as a goalkeeper but as a leader in our program has been incredibly rewarding as a coach. His impact this season has been tremendous."

This award is Carvajal's third career weekly award from the GLIAC after earning the honor in the final week of the 2024 season. This year, Carvajal has made 66 saves with three solo shutouts and one combined clean sheet to go along with his 1.24 goals against average and .786 save percentage this season.

Roosevelt will look to secure its second consecutive regular-season conference championship this weekend with road games at Northern Michigan and Parkside. The Lakers hold a one-point lead over Saginaw Valley State and a five-point edge over Parkside with every team having two matches remaining.
