WINONA, Minn. – Roosevelt won a pair of tight doubles matches to set the tone in a 6-1 win over Winona State on Saturday in Minnesota.
All three doubles matches in the dual ended 6-4, and the Lakers claimed two of those matches to earn the elusive doubles point.
Nathalie Ramazzini and
Zeynep Barut paired up to win at No. 2 doubles then
Sophie Christie and
Malena Moya held their own at the No. 3 position.
In singles action, Barut got the Lakers off to a roaring start with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 2 position. Lana Sener took the No. 6 point with a 6-3, 6-2 win, cancelling out Roosevelt's loss at No. 1 singles.
Milena Novikova at No. 5 and Ramazzini at No. 4 both won tight matches in straight sets. Then Christie closed the deal with a three-set win at No. 3 singles with an 11-9 victory in the supertiebreaker after dropping her first set in a tiebreak as well.
UP NEXT: The win moves Roosevelt to 3-0 in duals so far this season as its fall campaign closes later this week at Olivet Nazarene. The men and women both play the Tigers on Friday in thier final matches of the fall season.
