HAMMOND, Ind. – Roosevelt lost both matches Saturday against Purdue Northwest in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action in Hammond, Ind.
The Lakers were shut out 7-0 on the men's side, but pushed the women's match to the seventh and decisive match with the Pride edging out a 4-3 victory. The women dropped the doubles point with a pair of tight losses at the No. 1 and No. 2 flights, but Nathalie Ramazzini and Luciana Trigosso teamed up for a big 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
Both Ramazzini and Trigosso carried that momentum into their singles matches as both beat their opponents in straight sets. Ramazzini raced to a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles while Trigosso won a close first set in a tiebreak before edging out a 6-3 win in the second set. Milena Novikova earned Roosevelt's other point with a 7-5, 7-5 triumph at No. 4.
The match ended up hinging on No. 3 singles after Zeynep Barut and her opponent traded 6-3 wins in the first two sets. The third set ended up in a tiebreak as well before Purdue Northwest took it 7-5 for the dual win.
UP NEXT: Roosevelt hits the road to face Ferris State and Wayne State on Friday and Saturday.
