Lakers Cruise To Spring Break Sweep Behind Dominance At Plate, In Circle

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Roosevelt's bats were ready for action Wednesday on Florida's Space Coast as the Lakers pounded out a pair of victories on their annual spring break trip.

The Lakers (6-6) pounced early on Fisher College in the first game of the day with 11 runs on seven hits in the first inning while still leaving the bases loaded. It was more than enough support for the pitching staff, which combined to give up just one hit in an 18-1 rout of the Falcons in five innings. Roosevelt finished with 14 hits in the win and also drew 11 walks from the Fisher pitching staff.

Scout Kram again started the day off with a bang after earning a walk to lead off the bottom half of the first. She promptly stole second, one of two on the day for her, then scored on Brynn Dvoracek's single two batters later. Dvoracek then stole second and advanced to third on a groundout to set up the two-out magic from the Lakers lineup.

Bailee Reynolds and Gianna Boros both worked walks to load the bases before a passed ball allowed Dvoracek to score and advance everyone one base. Trinity Kelly then stepped into the batter's box and lined a single that plated both runners. Kelly then took off for a second and secured the first stolen base of her career before Alyssa Ribarovski and Chloe Boros both walked to again load the bases.

Kram was walked for the second time in the inning to make the score 5-0 then Isabella Walton, Dvoracek and Athena Pomele-Pen all singled to make the score 9-0. The damage finally ceased after Gianna Boros had a two RBI single and Kelly loaded the bases with her second hit of the inning when Ribarovski flew out to center.

An error from the Fisher left fielder allowed Madalyn Anderson to reach base safely and score Chloe Boros from third in the second inning. Reynolds drew a bases-loaded walk and Gianna Boros unleashed her second two-run single of the game to extend the lead to 15-0. Anderson tripled home a run in the third inning and Boros set a career high with six RBIs after again scoring two runs with a single to make the score 18-0 after three innings.

Samantha Norman struck out five of the seven batters she faced and Seren Horton struck out four in three innings to secure the victory. The extra rest did Kate Sisson well in the second game as she pitched five innings of one-hit ball to lead the Lakers to a 6-0 win over WVU Tech in the afternoon game. The senior struck out four and issued just one walk while completely locking down the Golden Bears' lineup. After allowing a one-out single in the first, Sisson set down 11 of the next 12 batters she faced in picking up her second win of the season.

Roosevelt also had its share of early struggles against the WVU Tech pitching staff before finally breaking open the game in the fifth. Kirstin Fudge opened the inning with a walk and Emma Wokurka followed with a walk of her own. Kram reached on an error by the Golden Bears pitcher, setting the table for Emily Zuniga to drive in the game's first run with a single to left field. Dvoracek grounded out to bring in a second run and the confidence began to flow through the Lakers bats.

Wokurka unleashed a triple to left field that scored two runs in the sixth inning followed by Norman laying down a sacrifice bunt that allowed Wokurka to score from third. Pomele-Pen tacked on an RBI triple in the seventh inning before Norman closed the door with two hitless innings in relief. Zuniga was the only Lakers batter with multiple hits against WVU Tech while Wokurka and Fudge both scored two runs in the victory.

The Lakers close out their spring break trip in Florida on Thursday with a 10:30 a.m. matchup with Culver-Stockton and a 1 p.m. showdown with Cornerstone.
