Box Score CHICAGO – Roosevelt couldn't overcome a second-quarter surge in falling to Hillsdale 63-52 at the Goodman Center on Saturday in a non-league matchup with the NCAA Division II Chargers.
The Lakers (1-6) were led in the early going by Malou Savanna, who knocked down both of her 3-pointers in the first quarter to help Roosevelt be even at 12 after 10 minutes. The Chargers responded with a 12-2 in the early parts of the second quarter to ultimately pull away for good, despite the best efforts of the Lakers defense. Roosevelt held Hillsdale to just 32.3 percent shooting in the game, but just 26.1 percent shooting in the second half.
There were chances for Roosevelt to go on a run in the third and fourth quarters, but the open shots didn't fall for the Lakers. The closest Roosevelt was able to get in the second half was seven points with 47 seconds left after another Savanna 3-pointer. The Lakers nearly had a steal on the ensuing inbounds pass before the Chargers finished the game by making free throws.
Savanna led the Lakers with 14 points as one of three Roosevelt players who finished with at least 10 points. Brilan McCory clawed her way to 10 points while Ella Pritchard continued her run of strong play with 10 points and eight rebounds. Grace Beyer chipped in seven points off the bench and Jayla Turchin controlled the pace with seven points and nine boards. Jaylyssa Carrasco had six assists and six rebounds from her spot at point guard and also added four points on a pair of layups.
Roosevelt will dive back into Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference action Wednesday night in University Park with a contest against Governors State set for 5:30 p.m.
