Lakers Fall to Cardinal Stritch in CCAC Conference Women's Soccer Opener

Box Score

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Roosevelt University women's soccer team opened its 2022 CCAC Conference season with a 3-1 loss to Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) on Wednesday, September 14 at Morris Field.  The Lakers are now 0-1 in conference play and 0-3-1 overall this season.

Early in the game, the Lakers had the best opportunity to score the game's first goal, but Meaghan Smith's shot from just inside the box was saved by Wolves' goalkeeper Carla Sastre.  In the 35th minute, Cardinal Stritch took a 1-0 lead with Annebel Brandts firing a shot past RU goalkeeper Roxana Herrera

The Lakers tied the game just over a minute later when Lola Arreola played a through ball for Meaghan Smith, and the senior forward rifled a shot past Sastre to even the game at 1-1.  Roosevelt nearly took the lead right before the half, but Griselda Gurrola's shot from inside the box hit the cross bar and the game remained tied at 1-1.

Despite the Lakers holding a slight edge in shots in the second half and in the game, the Wolves scored the game's next two goals in the 56th and 60th minutes to take a 3-1 lead.  The Lakers continued to press offensively in the contest, but were unable to score and get back into the game, falling 3-1.
