Box Score BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – After waiting 25 days since their last game, which took place on March 12 in Arizona, the Roosevelt University softball team finally had cooperation from Mother Nature and got back on the field to face Olivet Nazarene University at Tiger Field on Tuesday, April 5. The Lakers dropped the first game of the CCAC Conference doubleheader by the score of 13-5 in five innings and trailed 10-5 after six innings in game two when it was suspended due to darkness. That game will need to be completed at a later date and the Lakers are now 7-8 overall and 0-1 in conference play this season.
The Tigers batted first in the opening game despite hosting as the doubleheader was originally scheduled to be played at the Lakers home facility earlier this season, but was postponed due to inclement weather. Olivet Nazarene felt right at home and jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, using two hits and a walk to take the early lead.
Roosevelt answered with a three-run bottom half of the inning to take a 3-2 lead. Jessica Schneider got things started with a double to right center and scored on a Kelly Farmer base hit. A wild pitch scored Anaisa Lozada, who had walked earlier in the inning, and Farmer also scored later in the inning on a sacrifice bunt from Brielle Carre.
The RU lead was short lived as the Tigers scored five runs on four hits, including a two-run homer, in the next inning to regain the lead at 7-2. The Lakers did cut the deficit to 7-5 with two runs in the bottom of the third inning when Kassie Kawka and Carre both scored on a throwing error. Carre had walked and Kawka singled to get on base.
The Tigers blew open the game with a six-run fourth inning, with all runs scoring on three homeruns in the inning. Unfortunately, the Lakers offense was held scoreless and hitless in both the fourth and fifth innings to end the game by run-rule with a 13-5 final score.
