CHICAGO – Roosevelt softball had a pair of repeat honorees among its five student-athletes named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team, the organization announced Tuesday.
Juniors Ella Dvoracek and Kailey Hancock both were honored for the second consecutive season, and were joined by sophomores Riley Czarnecki, Catie Luzzi and Rebecca Urbaniak.
In order to be named to the Academic All-District teams, a student-athlete must hold at least a 3.5 grade point average as a sophomore or older. For field players, they are required to have appeared in at least 90 percent of a team's games or started 2/3 of those contests. For pitchers, they must make 17 appearances or throw at least 35 innings. Â
Dvoracek was one of two players in appear in all 48 games for the Lakers this season, starting all of them en route to being a second-team All-GLIAC performer. She led the team with a .333 batting average and .378 on-base percentage, racking up 51 hits to give her 147 for her career.
Urbaniak made 44 starts in 47 appearances for Roosevelt this season, batting .285 with a .340 on-base percentage.
In the circle, Czaernecki led the Lakers with six wins and a 4.45 ERA with 11 complete games in her 20 starts and 31 total appearances. Hancock threw 116 1/3 innings over 26 appearances, including 18 starts, and finished with four victories and a 4.51 ERA. Luzzi threw 51 2/3 innings across 18 appearances for the Lakers.
The Academic All-America program is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across championship college sports in all three NCAA divisions, the NAIA, two-year colleges and Canadian institutions. It was established in 1952 and the honorees are nominated by CSC members then All-American honors are voted on by the membership as well.
