Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

TUCSON, Ariz. – For the second straight day, the Roosevelt University softball team split a pair of games, knocking off Tabor College (Kan.) by the score of 12-2 in five innings and falling to the University of Jamestown (N.D.) by the score of 8-7 on Sunday, March 6 in Tucson, Ariz.  The Lakers are now 2-2 overall early in the season.

TABOR GAME RECAP

The Lakers used an eight-run second inning and a four-run fourth inning to compliment a strong pitching performance from Dayton Elliott, who went all five innings to earn her first win of the season.

To begin the second inning, the Lakers loaded the bases with Anaisa Lozada reaching on an error and both Kelly Farmer and Katrina Ramos following with base hits.  Emily Zuniga then singled to score Lozada, and Ashlyn Kitter came through with a double to bring in Farmer and Ramos.  One batter later, Kassie Kawka layed down a bunt and reached on an error to score Zuniga and advance Kitter to third.  Kitter then tagged up and scored on a Kirstin Fudge sacrifice fly and Kawka scored a batter later when Jessica Schneider doubled to left field.  Lozada then came up for the second time in the inning, this time lining a triple to right field to score Schneider, and Farmer then hit her second single of the inning to drive in Lozada for an 8-0 lead.

The Bluejays came back with two runs on two hits and a walk in the top of the third to cut the margin to 8-2, but Roosevelt blew open the game with four runs in the bottom of the fourth.  Three straight base hits by Schneider, Lozada, and Farmer resulted in Schneider scoring, and Ramos followed by grounding into a fielder's choice to bring in Lozada.  The Lakers then loaded the bases once again after singles by Brynn Dvoracek and Zuniga, and Kitter hit her second double of the game to score all three base runners and give RU a 12-2 advantage.

Elliott went on to retire Tabor without a run scored in the top of the fifth to end the game on run-rule and give the Lakers the win.
