CROWN POINT, Ind. – The Roosevelt Lakers netted one goal in each half to slip past Indiana University Northwest 2-0 on Wednesday in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference action.

Griselda Gurrola opened the scoring 10 minutes into the game off a pass from Meghan Smith as Roosevelt heaped pressure onto Indiana University Northwest. The Lakers outshot the RedHawks 10-3 in the first half, but had just the one goal to show for the dominance. Two of Indiana University Northwest's three shots came in the final minute off a corner kick, and both were blocked by the strong play of the backline.

The insurance tally would come 16 minutes into the second half when Paola Macias scored her second goal of the season. It was a much needed goal as well as the RedHawks evened the play in the second half and began to test Roxana Herrera in goal. The Lakers still held an 8-6 edge in shots over the final 45 minutes, but Herrera made all four of her saves in the second half. It was the third clean sheet of the year for Herrera and the fourth overall for the Lakers.

The 18 shots continued a strong offensive trend for the Lakers, who attempted at least 18 shots in three straight games. In addition to her third assist on the season, Smith led the way for Roosevelt with seven shot attempts. Gurrola put all four of her attempts on goal, including the one that netted her third goal of the season.  

Roosevelt will finish its season at Morris Field on Saturday for Senior Day against Indiana University South Bend. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. with the Senior Day festivities celebrated after the match.
