Lakers Defeat Trinity Christian to Advance in CCAC Conference Softball Tournament

CROWN POINT, Ind. – The third-seeded Roosevelt University softball team knocked off 11th-seeded Trinity Christian by the score of 5-4 in its CCAC Conference Tournament opener on Thursday, May 6 at the Crown Point Sports Complex. The Lakers advance in the double-elimination tournament to face second-seeded and 14th ranked Saint Xavier University at 3pm on Friday, May 7 in Crown Point, Ind.

The Lakers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with Kelly Framer singling home Kat Ramos (SO/Henderson, Nev.) and Mia Signore (FR/Tinley Park, Ill.) scoring on a passed ball. The Trolls got a run back in the top of the second inning on three hits off RU starting pitcher Kate Sisson (SO/Martinsville, Ind.) to make it a 2-1 ballgame.

Farmer was again involved in the Lakers scoring in the third inning, leading off the inning with a triple to right center and scoring on a Kassie Kawka (JR/Palos Hills, Ill.) base hit to extend the lead to 3-1. However, Trinity Christian answered right back with three runs on four hits in the next inning to take a 4-3 lead.

The Lakers showed their character and took the lead for good in the fifth inning with Farmer getting things started once again with a base hit. Camryn Williams (JR/Oregon City, Ore.) came in to pinch run for Farmer and scored on a Kawka triple to tie things up at 4-4. Destini Nolan (FR/Midlothian, Ill.) then followed with a triple of her own to right center to score Kawka to give the Lakers a 5-4 advantage, which Sisson would protect on the mound in the final two innings to earn the win.

NEXT UP

The Lakers square off against second-seeded and 14th ranked Saint Xavier University at 3pm on Friday, May 7 at the Crown Point Sports Complex. Saint Xavier defeated Indiana University South Bend 13-10 to advance to meet the Lakers.

The winner of tomorrow's game will advance to play at 12pm on Saturday, May 8 versus the winner of the Olivet Nazarene University/Saint Ambrose University game. The loser of the RU/SXU game will play at 5pm on Friday, May 7 against an opponent to be determined.
