ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Roosevelt University softball team split its second consecutive CCAC Conference doubleheader on Friday, April 9, losing game one to Trinity International University by the score of 2-1 and winning the second game by the score of 4-2 at The Stadium at the Parkway Sports Complex.
The Lakers got a strong performance from starting pitcher Kate Sisson (SO/Martinsville, Ind.) in game one, allowing just two runs, which were both unearned, on three hits to go with eight strikeouts. Down 2-0, Roosevelt pulled a run back in the bottom of the sixth inning when Jessica Schneider (FR/Las Vegas, Nev.) singled home Kassie Kawka (JR/Palos Hills, Ill.), who had doubled earlier in the inning. The Lakers threatened in the final inning with the tying run on third and winning run on second with one out, but the Trojans forced two ground outs to win the game.
In game two, the Trojans took a 2-0 lead once again, but the Lakers got a run back in the bottom of the fifth when Anaisa Lozada (SO/Bensenville, Ill.) singled home Samantha Norman (FR/Shorewood, Ill.). Roosevelt then scored three runs in the sixth with Rebecca Bluder (JR/Downers Grove, Ill.) and Jessica Schneider starting things off with back-to-back doubles. Aisley Njissang (SR/Los Altos, Calif.) and Camryn Williams (JR/Oregon City, Ore.) followed up with RBI singles later in the inning for the 4-2 final score line.
