Box Score GLENDALE, Wis. – The Roosevelt University women's soccer team's best season in program history came to an end with a 3-1 loss to Cardinal Stritch University in the CCAC Conference Tournament quarter-finals on Friday, November 5 at the Bavarian Inn in Glendale, Wis. The Lakers ended the season with an overall record of 11-7-1 with the 11 victories marking a program record for wins in a season.
The first half was an even affair with both teams registering six shots in the first 45 minutes. However, the Wolves took a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick in the 18th minute and held that lead heading into the half-time break.
The Lakers found the equalizer just over seven minutes into the second half when Gabi Christidis played a ball through to Marbella Rodriguez, who outran the Stritch defenders and beat the goalkeeper for her seventh goal of the year and a 1-1 tie. Later in the half, it appeared the Lakers took a 2-1 lead on a Christidis shot, but the goal was disallowed for an offside call.
Cardinal Stritch regained the lead in the 78th minute and then added a third goal in the 79th minute off a well-placed free kick to stretch its lead to 3-1. The Lakers continued to fight until the end to get back into the game, but were unable to find the back of the net despite numerous flurries around the Cardinal Stritch goal.
