Box Score CHICAGO – The Roosevelt University women's basketball team battled back from an early 20-point deficit versus visiting St. Ambrose (Iowa) to get within four and make it a game the rest of the way against the unbeaten Bees, but the Lakers fell by a final of 78-67 to suffer their first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference loss on Saturday, November 13 at the Goodman Center. The Lakers are now 2-1 in league action and 2-3 overall after seeing their two-game winning streak snapped.
St. Ambrose (5-0, 3-0 CCAC) broke open a 12-9 game early by holding the Lakers scoreless for the final 4:49 of the first quarter, closing the opening stanza on a 14-0 run and eventually taking a 29-9 advantage early in the second quarter.
Undeterred, the Lakers chipped away at the Bees' lead and got within eight before heading into intermission down 41-29.
The Lakers came out of the break by going on a 9-0 run that got Roosevelt within six, and a few moments later Ashley Smoldt knocked down a jumper that cut the St. Ambrose advantage to 45-41 halfway through the third quarter.
Unfortunately it would be the Bees taking control with three unanswered buckets that put them ahead again by double digits, and the Lakers could only get as close as seven points with St. Ambrose pulling away late.
