Box Score GARY, Ind. – The Roosevelt University women's basketball team remained unbeaten in CCAC Conference action with a 73-66 victory over Indiana University Northwest on Wednesday, November 10 on the road at the Savannah Center. The Lakers are now 2-0 in conference play and evened their overall record at 2-2 on the year.
Both teams struggled offensively for most of the first quarter with the score tied at 2-2 for just over four minutes into the game. The RedHawks then took a 5-2 lead, but Shawna Conger evened the game on a three-pointer and Nicole Poole gave the Lakers a 7-5 lead on a jump shot with 3:28 to go in the period. The first 10 minutes of play ended with both teams tied at 13-13.
Ashley Smoldt opened the second quarter with a layup and Poole followed with a three-point basket to give Roosevelt an 18-13 advantage in the first minute. The Lakers then led by as many as six points at 26-20 on a Gabrielle Beggs layup with four minutes to go, but Indiana Northwest tied things up at 26-26 and once again at 30-30 before Amelia McNutt gave the Lakers a 32-30 lead at the half.
The Lakers pushed their lead to six points again in the third quarter and continued to up their lead with Beggs hitting a three-pointer to give the visitors a 50-39 margin with 2:29 to go. Beggs hit another trey late in the period and the Lakers closed out the third quarter leading 53-42.
Roosevelt increased its lead to 14 points on a Smoldt jump shot and McNutt free throw, and then pushed the margin to a game-high 18 points at 64-46 with 5:26 left in the game. However, Indiana Northwest slowly chipped away at the lead and cut the deficit to 67-60 with 1:18 remaining, but the Lakers held off the home team for the 73-66 league win.
