Women's Basketball Cannot Rally Past 24th-Ranked Olivet Nazarene

CHICAGO – Ashley Smoldt led four Lakers in double figures with 20 points, but the Roosevelt women's basketball team could not rally past 24th-ranked Olivet Nazarene on Saturday, falling 100-81 to the Tigers inside the Goodman Center.

Lindzy Cox added 16 points, while JayShari Chears and MicQuasha Riddle tallied 11 points apiece for the Lakers (7-21, 6-14 CCAC).

Sammy Stejskal led all players with 30 points for the Tigers (20-8, 16-4 CCAC), who forced 36 RU turnovers as the result of their frenetic press.

Roosevelt battled with nationally-ranked ONU, as the Lakers led by as many as nine early in the first.

ONU went on a run at the end of the opening quarter to claim the lead, but the Lakers shot 62 percent in the second quarter to trail by just nine at intermission.

Olivet used a 7-0 burst early in the third to go up by mid-teens, maintaining that advantage for much of the stanza.

After the Tigers went up by 21 in the fourth, Roosevelt remained resolute in chipping away and cut its deficit down to nine with 3:33 following a 14-2 Laker run.

However, Olivet used a 12-2 run to go back up 19 as Roosevelt's rally ran out of gas at the end.

The Lakers host St. Ambrose inside the Goodman Center this Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 5:30 p.m. in the home finale. Roosevelt will celebrate Senior Day and honors its 2020 graduating class before the contest.
