BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. – The Roosevelt women's soccer team battled Governors State to a scoreless draw in the CCAC opener at SeatGeek Stadium on Saturday.
The Lakers (1-1-2, 0-0-1 CCAC) edged the Jaguars (0-5-1, 0-0-1 CCAC) 10-9 in shots while putting three on target. Roosevelt dominated in corner kicks by a final 8-1 margin.
Monica Munoz led Roosevelt with three shots, including some near-misses that appeared just an inch or so short of getting into the net.
Roosevelt almost had a goal in the final seconds of the first half, when Munoz sent a corner toward the front of goal. The ball bounced around, and it appeared Morgan Erickson had headed in the ball past the scrum and the goal line as the horn sounded, but the goal was waved off with the shot deemed to be taken just after the horn.
Kelsey Heaton made five saves in registering the clean sheet.
Roosevelt hosts Trinity International at Stuart Field on Tuesday at an adjusted start time of 2:00 p.m.
