CHICAGO – The Roosevelt softball team rebounded from a 9-0 loss to Saint Xavier with a close game against the Cougars in the nightcap, but the host Cougars scored runs in the sixth and seventh innings to walk-off with a 2-1 decision on Saturday.
Caitlyn Santiago and McKayla Bowen had two hits each in the finale, while Aisley Njissang drove in the Lakers' only run on a fielder's choice in the third.
Madison Lentz had a strong outing until the late frames, when Lexxie Lux led off the sixth with a triple that was followed by an error on the play to allow her to score the game-tying run.
A leadoff walk and sac bunt put the winning run in scoring position in the seventh when Brittany Schultz hit a ball deep to center that allowed the winning run to cross.
Roosevelt faces Robert Morris on the road on Sunday.
