Softball Falls To Dakota State, Concordia (Neb.) On First Day Of Tucson Invitational Games

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Roosevelt softball team churned out 17 hits in two games to open the 2019 Tucson Invitational Games on Saturday, but the Lakers were stung by multi-run innings in a pair of losses.

Roosevelt (0-9) was burned by two three-run homers in a 9-4 loss to Dakota State (S.D.) in the early-morning opener, and the Lakers couldn't stop Concordia (Neb.) as the Bulldogs scored multiple runs in every inning en route to a 15-3 decision.

Haley Huss had three extra-base hits and two RBI, while Kelly Farmer went 3-for-5 with two RBI.

Brianna McCormick had two perfect innings of relief work, with three strikeouts to her credit for a bright spot during an otherwise tough day in the circle for the Green and White.

The Lakers competed hard against Dakota State, but Roosevelt left 10 runners on base and saw the Trojans (3-7) go yard with two runners aboard in back-to-back innings.

Concordia (9-3) jumped out to a 3-0 first-inning advantage and never looked back by churning out 12 hits that proved opportunistic and produced 15 runs.

Roosevelt will look to bounce back on the second day of its Tucson Invitational Games stay with early competitions against Viterbo (Wis.) and Park (Mo.).
