CHICAGO – The Roosevelt women's basketball team celebrated seniors Becca Bergman, Jasmine Albert, Cherish Smith and Carmisha Chavers prior to the Lakers' home finale against 19th-ranked Cardinal Stritch on Wednesday, saluting the foursome with a pregame ceremony at the Goodman Center as part of Senior Night.
Bergman, a 1,000-point scorer and four-year letterwinner, along with impactful transfers Albert, Smith and Chavers, were saluted with their families as part of the evening's festivities.
As for the game, Roosevelt got off to a strong start before the nationally-ranked Wolves eventually caught up and pulled away late in a 71-63 decision for the guests.
Lindzy Cox led the Lakers (15-14, 8-11 CCAC) with 17 points, while freshmen Nadia Thorman-McKey and Emily Czuhajewski added 10 points apiece.
Bergman handed out eight assists, while Jordan Fierst pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
Jalah Harris led all scorers with 18 points off the bench for the CCAC co-leading Wolves (20-8, 16-3 CCAC).
Roosevelt jumped out to a quick 11-4 advantage and nursed a five-point lead before Cardinal Stritch scored 10 unanswered points to reverse their own fortunes.
The game was a close, tooth-and-nail affair for most of the second and third quarters before Stritch built a double-digit lead by time the middle of the fourth quarter transpired.
Roosevelt ran out of time, as Stritch took advantage of a 24-6 free-throw advantage for the game.
The Lakers conclude the regular season this Saturday on the road at Trinity Christian.
