NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Lindzy Cox posted her sixth 20-plus-point performance in eight games to lead all scorers with 26, but host Holy Cross held off the Roosevelt women's basketball team late as the Lakers fell by a final of 74-66 at McKenna Arena on Saturday.
Tanea White made 5 of 7 from downtown to tally 15 points while grabbing four rebounds and handing out three assists, and Ashley Smoldt added 12 points, four rebounds and three dimes for the Lakers (2-6, 1-3 CCAC).
JayShari Chears added eight points, five boards and five steals.
Jayda Miller led the Saints (3-6, 2-2 CCAC) with 23 points.
Roosevelt jumped out to a 14-5 lead to begin the game and led by as many as five in the second quarter before Holy Cross ended the second stanza on a 19-9 run to reverse the five-point advantage and put it in the Saints' favor.
Holy Cross went up 11 in the third quarter, as Roosevelt continued to claw back but faced resistance from the hosts.
The Saints would go up 12 with 99 ticks left in regulation, but that did not deter the Lakers as RU went on a quick 6-0 burst to get within six with a little more than a minute left in the game.
But Miller assisted on a big bucket by Kaelyn Barlow that extended the lead beyond two possessions, and the Lakers ran out of time.
Takeaways continue to be a strong suit for the Lakers, as the Green and White caused 20 HCC turnovers.
Roosevelt hosts Wilberforce (Ohio) in a non-conference bout at the Goodman Center this Tuesday at a special start time of 2 p.m.
