ELGIN, Ill. – Lindzy Cox posted team highs of 19 points and eight rebounds, but host Judson used a 12-0 first-quarter run to create significant early distance between the Eagles and the Roosevelt women's basketball team, as the Lakers eventually fell by a final of 61-42 at the Lindner Fitness Center on Saturday.
Tanea White added eight points off the bench for the Lakers (12-10, 5-7 CCAC), who shot 6-for-38 (16 percent) in the first half and finished the game shooting 24 percent from the floor.
Long distance was even more difficult, as Roosevelt made just 3-of-22 (14 percent) shots from beyond the arc.
Daija Pruitt led all players with 24 points and 13 rebounds for the Eagles (10-10, 6-6 CCAC), who broke open a 6-5 game early by scoring 12 unanswered points before Cox made a pair of free throws to end the drought.
Judson closed the opening quarter up 22-9 and led by as many as 18 in the second and 23 in the third, and Roosevelt was unable to mount a comeback due to its shooting troubles on this particular afternoon.
"We dug ourselves in too big of a hole today," Roosevelt head coach Keisha Newell said. "We didn't come out with the energy and urgency that we needed. It's tough to win when we give up 22 points in a quarter and also shoot the ball the way we did.
"We were able to make a run in the second half, but again it was just too much to overcome," said Newell, who referred to the Lakers getting within 12 early in the fourth quarter before losing steam due to the size of the deficit.
Roosevelt returns home this Wednesday to host Indiana South Bend at 5:30 p.m. inside the Goodman Center.
