ROSEMONT, Ill. – Aisley Njissang's bases-clearing three-run double in the bottom of the third was all the Roosevelt softball team needed to dispatch of visiting Saint Xavier in a 3-2 CCAC win at The Ballpark at Rosemont on Thursday.
Starter Brinn Arwood recovered from a two-run first inning to keep the Cougars off the scoreboard in her last five innings of work, and Madison Lentz came on in the seventh and retired three straight batters with the tying run aboard to earn her first save for the Lakers (6-19, 1-2 CCAC).
After Kelli Jones walked with one away in the third and Haley Huss followed with a double to put a pair in scoring position, Caitlyn Santiago walked to bring up Njissang. The rookie from Castro Valley, California delivered a huge hit that drove home all three runners and put the Lakers ahead.
That lead stood with Arwood evading trouble from six walks and Lentz closing the door.
The second game of the scheduled doubleheader against the Cougars (12-6, 3-2 CCAC) was postponed due to weather and will be rescheduled later this season.
Roosevelt returns to The Ballpark at Rosemont on Friday for a twinbill against Indiana South Bend beginning at 3 p.m.
