Women's Basketball Felled On The Road At St. Ambrose, 77-70

Box Score

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Five Lakers finished in double figures on the offensive end, but the Roosevelt women's basketball team struggled from the field in the second and third quarters to allow host St. Ambrose to get ahead and eventually clinch a 77-70 decision at Lee Lohman Arena on Wednesday.

Lindzy Cox and Chelsey Crippen tallied 16 points apiece to lead the Lakers (14-11, 7-8 CCAC). Cox connected on four of seven three-point attempts, and Crippen posted her second straight double-double with 11 rebounds in a strong effort off the bench.

Paige Gallimore tacked on 14 points, going 6-for-6 from the foul line, while Jasmine Albert added 13 points and Becca Bergman scored 11 points.

Madi Epperson led all scorers with 21 points for the Bees (10-15, 8-7 CCAC).

Roosevelt connected on eight of its first 16 shots to go ahead 21-17 after one quarter of play. That's when the Lakers suffered a mid-game dry spell, making just four of 14 from the floor in the second quarter and three of 12 attempts in the third for total two-quarter clip of 27 percent.

Meanwhile SAU used Roosevelt's offensive woes as opportunity to take a slim lead into the break and build on that in the third.

The Lakers shot much better in the fourth (42 percent) to attempt a comeback, but the Bees shot 62 percent during that span and made 11 of 13 foul shots to keep Roosevelt at a distance until the final horn sounded.

St. Ambrose scored 23 points off of 16 Roosevelt turnovers.

Roosevelt head coach Keisha Newell noted a variety of factors that hindered her team this evening.

"Defensive stops and rebounding really hurt us," Newell said, referring to Roosevelt's seven-rebound deficit. "We didn't shoot the ball well, either. We have to get back to the basics and stop allowing teams to put up 70-plus points. I thought the fight was there tonight. Again, we just have to get back to getting it done on the defensive end."

The Lakers will cap a four-game road stretch at Olivet Nazarene in Bourbonnais this Saturday.
