CHICAGO – The Roosevelt women's soccer team celebrated seniors Kara Jones, Brennan Sullivan, Cynthia Gutierrez and Emilia Rogowski prior to the Lakers' home finale against Judson at Kroc Stadium on Saturday.
The two sides played to a stalemate until the Eagles scored a stunning goal with two seconds left in the first half, and Judson's Adela Pelayo put the game out of reach with two second-half goals in a 3-0 loss for the Lakers on a frigid day that saw a brief second-half delay due to hail and strong winds.
Roosevelt (2-10-1, 2-6-0 CCAC) couldn't muster much offense, unleashing just two shots on the afternoon.
Judson (4-9-1, 3-4-1 CCAC) took 17 shots, and the Eagles had the game-changing attempt in the waning moments of the first period. After a foul was whistled, Kimberly Robbins took the free kick and sent in a ball toward goal that found reserve Jaqueline Sosa front and center for a quick conversion with just two ticks on the clock.
Pelayo did the rest for the Eagles, scoring in the 64th minute on a free kick and again six minutes later when she capitalized on a ball misplayed by the Lakers near their own goal and took a shot unimpeded for her second tally of the match.
Roosevelt plays at Saint Xavier on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
