JOLIET, Ill. – Chelsey Crippen scored a team-leading 13 points while pulling down 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season, but the Roosevelt women's basketball team's struggles to shoot from the field during the second and third quarters allowed host and 17th-ranked St. Francis (Ill.) to rally back from an early deficit and defeat the Lakers, 62-49, at the Sullivan Center on Saturday.
Ashley Smoldt scored nine points while Jasmine Albert and Lindzy Cox added eight points apiece for the Lakers (14-10, 7-7 CCAC).
Kamari Jordan scored a game-high 16 points while Nichole Davidson had 12 points and a game-high 17 rebounds for the Fighting Saints (15-7, 11-3 CCAC).
Roosevelt led by as many as six points in the first quarter and early in the second when the shots just stopped falling. After connecting on half of their shot attempts in the opening 10 minutes, the Lakers made just three of 15 shots in the second quarter, including just one of seven from beyond the arc, and only four of 17 in the third quarter.
St. Francis took advantage, building a five-point lead at the end of the first half before growing the divide to 16 points in the third.
The Lakers recalibrated on offense to get back near the 50 percent shooting clip in the fourth and get within six of the Saints with about a minute left in regulation. But time was not on Roosevelt's side, and USF put the game away at the foul line.
Crippen was made six of her eight shots and swatted away a pair of shots during her strong game.
Roosevelt heads to Davenport, Iowa to take on St. Ambrose this Wednesday.
