Softball Slips Against Stritch

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Roosevelt softball team was upended by Cardinal Stritch during doubleheader play at The Ballpark at Rosemont on Saturday night.

The Lakers (8-16, 1-9 CCAC) lost the opener 13-2 before threatening in the bottom of the seventh and seeing their rally come up short in a 9-6 loss to the Wolves (17-10, 6-4 CCAC).

Haley Huss went 3-for-4 in the nightcap and 5-for-7 during the two-game set.

Three errors and a couple of crooked innings, including a tough seven-run fifth, put game one out of reach for the Lakers.

Roosevelt took an early lead in game two, tallying a run in the first on Huss' RBI triple and tacking on two more in the second with RBI plays off the bats of Cam Wicker and Lauryn Lewis.

Stritch scored three times in the third, with aid from an RU error, to knot the contest, and a four-run fifth put the Wolves ahead.

Roosevelt would not go away, scoring twice in the fifth on Caitlyn Santiago's RBI triple and a subsequent error that allowed her to trot home.

The Wolves matched that run output in the next half-inning, but the Lakers kept fighting until the end. Huss tripled and came home on Katrina Yager's RBI single, and Roosevelt would eventually load the bases to put the winning run at the plate with two away.

But a game-ending forceout snuffed out the Lakers' comeback attempt despite a valiant, never-say-die showing in the final frame.

Roosevelt faces Robert Morris Illinois in a makeup doubleheader in Bensenville on Sunday.
