Hart Caps Career, Softball Concludes 2017 Season With Split Versus St. Ambrose

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Roosevelt softball team celebrated the career of four-year Laker Bethany Hart before capping the 2017 season with a split against St. Ambrose at The Ballpark at Rosemont on Thursday evening.

Roosevelt won in walk-off fashion on Mackenzie LeDuc's game-deciding RBI single to beat the Bees 7-6 in the opener.

St. Ambrose used three multi-run innings to rebound with a 9-3 decision in the nightcap.

The Lakers finished the campaign 12-26 overall and 5-19 in CCAC play.

Head coach Aaron Moore celebrated the contributions and career of Hart, who played six different defensive positions in Thursday's opener. The Marengo native, who will graduate from Roosevelt with a degree in biology, finished her 117-game collegiate career with a 2-for-3 showing in the first game before she was replaced by Amber Green in centerfield to begin the seventh of the second game for an ovation as she stepped off the diamond one last time.

The opening contest was knotted after six when St. Ambrose (31-16, 14-10 CCAC) scored to take a one-run lead.

Haley Huss hit a two-out triple, and Caitlyn Santiago was down to her final strike when she hit a game-tying RBI single.

After stealing second and moving to third on a wild pitch, Santiago was able to trot home on LeDuc's third hit of the game, a base knock to left, for the walk-off win.

The Lakers took an early lead in game two on an RBI groundout by Huss in the first, but the Bees posted a three-spot in the third. St. Ambrose scored four times in the sixth and another two in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Taylor Sterkowitz went 3-for-3 in the nightcap.
