Softball Shut Out By No. 15 St. Francis (Ill.)

JOLIET, Ill. – Offense proved difficult to come by for the Roosevelt softball team against 15th-ranked St. Francis (Ill.), as the Lakers fell to the league-leading Fighting Saints in a pair of 8-0 games at Harlow Lockwood Fields on Saturday.

Roosevelt (10-22, 3-15 CCAC) mustered just a Cam Wicker single with one out in the third inning against Morghan Dieringer, who stymied the Lakers in the opener as the Saints (30-4, 14-2 CCAC) put the game out of reach with a combined six runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

The Lakers were able to churn out five hits in the finale, but St. Francis scored five times in the bottom of the first and never looked back.

Despite the rough day, it was a great week for shortstop Haley Huss. The Lakers' leading hitter capped a six-game stretch with a .611 average (11-for-18) with two homers, a double, a triple and seven RBI. The sophomore slugged 1.111 and posted an on-base percentage of .667.

Roosevelt takes the field again next Saturday when the Lakers host Trinity Christian at The Ballpark at Rosemont at 5 p.m.
