Indiana Northwest Uses Second-Half Run To Get Past Women's Basketball, 69-61

CHICAGO – It was a story of two halves for the Roosevelt Lakers on Tuesday night in its home-opening loss to the visiting Indiana Northwest RedHawks, as they dropped a 69-61 decision to fall to 1-1.

After one period of play the score was tied 23-23 and Roosevelt outscored IU Northwest 15-9 in the second to take a six-point lead into the locker room.

But it was all RedHawks in the second half. IU Northwest outscored Roosevelt 27-12 in the third to jump out to the big lead.

Roosevelt shot just 10-for-33 in the second half and made just three of its 12 attempts from deep, while IU Northwest was 14-for-28 from the floor.

"We really let this game slip away," Roosevelt head coach Keisha Newell said. "Too many unforced errors and not enough defensive stops. The best thing about our sport is that the next opportunity is never too far away. I'm hoping that this game and the potential that we continue display will motivate us to be better at the little things and really start to put it all together."

The Lakers were led in scoring by sophomore Lindzy Cox and junior Becca Bergman who finished with 22 and 17, respectively. The Roosevelt duo scored 17 of the teams 23 points in the second half of the game.

Cox's output was a career best, eclipsing her previous single-game best of 20.

The RedHawks, who came into the game ranked No. 18 in the latest NAIA poll, improved its record to 3-2 on the season.

IU Northwest was led by junior guard Chloe Salman in the game. The Paw Paw, Mich. Native scored 22 points, including 12 in the second half to lead all scorers.

The Lakers are back in action this Saturday when they host Bethel College at the Goodman Center. Tip-off between Roosevelt and the Pilots is scheduled for 1 p.m.
