Box Score 2 CHICAGO – Emily Duckhorn led a balanced attack with a game-high 18 points off the bench, and the Roosevelt women's basketball team rode a strong start to defeat St. Ambrose, 68-49, inside the Goodman Center on Saturday afternoon.
Cearrah Huddleston, another reserve, scored 11 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, Ashley Smoldt added 10 points and Becca Bergman handed out a game-high nine assists for the Lakers (3-2, 1-1 CCAC), who built a 14-point lead and led by as many as 18 before the first half was over.
The Bees (1-6, 0-2) got within seven in the third quarter, but Roosevelt responded by outscoring SAU 15-2 to go up by 20 and never look back.
Duckhorn canned four of Roosevelt's six treys during a 7-for-13 showing from the floor.
"This was a big-time team win," Roosevelt head coach Keisha Newell said after the victory. "Our bench contribution was outstanding and I am proud of how we shared the basketball. Most importantly, we are seeing defensive improvements every game. I'm excited for us to keep growing and getting better."
Roosevelt hosts Olivet Nazarene this Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Goodman Center.
