North Myrtle Beach, SC – Senior Katie Neubauer's fourth-inning grand slam highlighted the Roosevelt softball team's 9-0, five-inning victory over Ohio Valley University on Wednesday afternoon at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic.
Neubauer's first home run of the season staked the Lakers (2-5) to an 8-0 lead after the Green and White had already scratched the scoreboard for four runs in the third inning.
Freshman Lauryn Lewis, sophomore Mackenzie LeDuc and junior Bethany Hart each tallied two hits for Roosevelt in the win. Senior Morgan Vogt took care of things for the Lakers in the circle allowing just one hit in five shutout innings for her first win of the season.
Roosevelt jumped ahead of the Fighting Scots early, plating four runs in the top of the third inning. Hart drove home the first tally with a single to center. Senior Kelly Crowley followed with a double that pushed Hart to third. Hart would then score with Vogt up to bat when after the first offering the Ohio Valley (3-4) catcher attempted to pick Hart off third. The throw was errant which allowed Hart to scamper home for the second run of the inning. Vogt followed with a triple into the gap in left-centerfield that scored Crowley. Vogt then came home with the final run of the frame on a wild pitch.
Neubauer's grand slam, a line drive over the 225-foot sign in left field, doubled Roosevelt's advantage in the fourth inning. Lewis made the score 9-0 later in the frame with an RBI single to left.
The Lakers are back in action later on Wednesday as they take on Alderson-Broaddus
