North Myrtle Beach, SC – The Roosevelt softball opened its third day of competition at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic with a 5-3 loss to Briar Cliff.
Lakers freshman Haley Huss recorded her first career hit and RBI in the contest with a fourth-inning single that plated fellow rookie Katrina Yager. Yager also collected her first two collegiate hits versus the Chargers with a single in the second and a double in the fourth inning.
Briar Cliff plated a run in the bottom of the first and then tacked on a trio of unearned runs in the second to build an early 4-0 lead. Roosevelt pulled to within 4-1 in the top of the fourth, but the Chargers answered with a run of their own to rebuild their four-run cushion.
The Lakers challenged that advantage in the seventh. With two outs Kristy Santora drove in a pair of runs with a single, but the senior was thrown out at second trying to move herself into scoring position to end the game.
Senior Morgan Vogt was tagged with the loss in the circle, allowing five runs, two earned, on eight hits. She is now 0-2 on the season.
The Lakers (0-5) will return to the diamond later on Monday to take on Waldorf College at 1:30 p.m.
