CHICAGO – Paige Gallimore led all scorers with 19 points, and the Roosevelt women's basketball team built a big lead in the first half that held up in a 73-61 win over Trinity International at the Goodman Center on Wednesday.
Gallimore added nine rebounds to fall just short of another double-double, while Becca Bergman added 10 points and Gina Mathews tallied eight points along with four assists for the Lakers (5-2, 3-1 CCAC).
Brookelyn Robertson led the Trojans (2-6, 0-4 CCAC) with 13 points off the bench.
Roosevelt shot 56 percent (9-for-16) in the second quarter to help a 15-9 lead after 10 minutes balloon to 41-26 at halftime.
The Lakers used a stout defensive effort to hold TIU to just 34 percent shooting in an impressive all-around showing by the hosts.
"Tonight was a complete team effort," Roosevelt head coach Keisha Newell said after the victory. "I am proud of how we executed, rebounded, and shared the basketball. Again, I could not be more proud of the contributions we got today from everyone on our team. We will continue to work hard and look to improve every single day."
The Lakers head to South Bend to take on the Titans of Indiana South Bend this Saturday.
